Adopt a beautiful Pound Pals animal
Thank you for your interest in a rescue animal.
Pound Pals places animals as companions in screened homes to ensure there is a good match between the animal and the family. An adoption application and a home visit are required prior to adoption. We are happy to provide any information you need on Pound Pals animals, so feel free to email us.
All our age-appropriate animals are spay/neutered, vaccinated, Feline Leukemia/FIV tested (cats), heartworm/Lyme tested (dogs). Adoption fees include spay/neuter for cats and dogs too young to be sterilized. You will receive the animal’s vet records.
Pound Pals does long distance adoptions. No-cost transport can be arranged with volunteer drivers through a coordinated transport network. Home visits will be done by a rescue in your area. For more info, see our FAQs.
If you would like to adopt, please email us for an application.
Please note our rescue is run entirely by committed volunteers and we reply as promptly as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Does Pound Pals have a shelter to visit?
Pound Pals is not a shelter with a facility, visiting hours or staff. Our animals are in foster homes or boarded at vets. We’re happy to arrange for you to meet a dog or cat upon completion of an approved adoption application.
Why is there an adoption fee?
Veterinary costs are expensive. Animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms/Lyme (dogs) or Feline Leukemia/FIV (cats) and de-wormed. Often rescue animals require more than routine vet care. Adoption fees don’t reflect the actual cost of vetting. The difference is subsidized through fund-raising efforts and generous supporters. Adopters receive the animal’s vet records.
Once we apply, is the dog or cat ours?
Processing your application does not imply that you have been approved for adoption. There may be numerous applications for one animal. We don’t select homes on a first-come basis.
How do I know if I am approved to adopt?
Our volunteers correspond with applicants via email.
How do I know if the dog or cat is still available?
Pound Pals works to keep our website updated.
Can I meet the dog or cat before I fill out an application?
No. We require an application to begin the adoption process.
Will a dog need training?
We encourage adopters to enroll their dog in positive reinforcement training immediately. We can recommend good trainers. Training is a lifetime investment in your animal. It’s fun and a bonding experience that ensures happy families.
Does Pound Pals do long distance adoptions?
Yes. Transport can be arranged with a network of volunteer drivers, or you are welcome to come to Radford. There is no cost for transport. Home visits are handled by a rescue in your area.
What if I can’t keep my adopted animal?
Rescue animals need time and patience to adjust to a new environment. We’re here to help, so please contact us pals@psknet.com with any problems. We understand that unexpected things occur necessitating an animal be returned. Pound Pals is committed to our adoptees and will rehome our animals. This stated on the adoption agreement. The animal cannot not be transferred to any person, organization, shelter or rescue without the written permission of Pound Pals. We ask that sufficient notice be given to provide for alternative housing and transport. Adoption fees are non-refundable.
